Rep Strength

This is a 8x10 different view on weights. I used a brick red background in order to make the whites and blacks of the drawing pop out even more. I kept this simple and used prisma color and the background color as my main focus.I feel that it is a bit empty in between the weights but I did not what else to add, and also I did not want to make the drawing too busy and take away the focus from the weights.

Tin Can

This is my first independent work, 12x18 still life done in charcoal. I really enjoyed how this turned down. I tried my best to improve my charcoal abilities during this independent work, to try to capture a more realistic look. I think the only minor thing that I would have liked to make better would be the rope. The reason it did not turn out as well was that the mat fixative I added on top of each layer gave me less and less ability to add more color on top.

Any one want ice cream?

This is a 15x12 in impasto painting of ice cream cones. The idea behind this was to keep it simply and create visual texture. The main two medias I used for this was achrilic paint and also a special type of paint that can create texture. I tried to stick to the basics by simply using shadows, color harmony, and texture to make this piece interesting pleasing to the sight. There are a few problems with the cones to where one of them looks a bit off but that I believe was do to me only visualizing and not prepping. I tried to create all of the cones simply from observation and I didn't use any science and measurement.

Lincoln in white and black

This is a 16x12 assembly with a charcoal drawing on top of it. I created this piece by taking a lot of sheets of papers with different designs and then gluing them down. After that I added a layer of achrilic paint to allow the sheets of paper in the background to come together. After that I drew a portrait of president Lincoln in white and black charcoal on the top. I think over all it turned out really good. I had to keep in mind that I had to make this a drawing and show marksmanship which an assembly doesn't really work the best to show that. With that limitation in mind, I did my best and it turned out over all not bad.

The punch

This is a 11x17 which I practiced with charcoal to create. I used charcoal, and prisma color to create this. The assignment was to create motion by erasing the charcoal, which you can see by the fist moving. I added an extra layer of thought to this by creating foreshortening with the fist. I was over all very happy with how it turned out, the color really makes the mood of the work. I would say I was not the happiest with the background in this, it feels sorta empty. While i feel like it is empty, it also really adds to the mood because it almost seems like rain which adds to the mood of sad/depressing.

Shells in white and black

This is 11x17 practice of a still life using charcoal. I say practice because this was just me getting used to charcoal and how to create shadows and shades etc. The artwork is incomplete so that is my main issue with it. What i did finish though, I believe actually turned out really cool. You can see the texture in the shells and the gradients are there, so for a practice I was happy with it.

Bathroom

It is a 7.5x8 picture of some interesting things I found in my bathroom counter top. I drew it using prisma color on some black paper. I have to say though the paper did not seem to want to work with me, no matter how many times I went over it, it continued to have uneven color marks. Not very sure why that happened but it made it not turned out the way I wanted it to. Next I time I will try the paper that I am drawing on.

I love my pasta

It;s an 8.5x11 picture of my bowl of pasta, almost cleaned because I like pasta haha. The lighting at the bottom right makes this picture seem a lot lighter then it is, in real life that part gets very close to basically being black. Aside from that I just took a picture and I tried to used achrilic paint to replicate the picture. Considering I am not the best at paint I am very happy with how it turned out, I actually see some improvement in this painting then the last one I did, I am starting to be able to blend colors a lot better. So I am happy I tried to paint again even if it is not my strongest part.

The best way to describe this is long, painful, but rewarding. I had never used oiled pastels prior to this so I am glad that I used them. While it did not turn out perfect or to the level which I wanted, I still enjoyed the learning experience. So I focused on a small part of the dishwasher to try to not have too many things for the eyes to wonder. It is not my best work but I didn't know oil pastels would be so difficult and time consuming but I tried my best.

beach house

It is an 8.5x 11 art work of the beach house i was in this week. I only had one pencil and my sketch book so I try to do this as best as I could. I did not have a ruler so I am very proud of my lines and how it all ended up turning out. I put in a good 6 hrs but it still did not turn out the way I wanted it, I guess it is not my forte to do architectural

La mano

It is an 8.5x11 drawing of my hand pushing on my closet door. I did it all in graphite pencils. I really wanted to challenge myself a bit so I picked one of the weirdest angles I could find in order to make this drawing. The angle made it a bit harder to draw and so it was a bit more challenging then I expected. All and all I was really happy how it turned, and I was proud I did not do the easy thing.

Uncle Juan

This is a 13.5x11 foreshorting painting of my interpretation of uncle Sam. With the very popular immigration topic, I made him Mexican and put a fence in the background to develop the story more. I did the whole thing in prismacolor and started out as a picture of me which i transformed into Uncle Juan. The one thing that I would have liked to fixed is maybe the fence because I feel it could be improved.

McCoffee

This is a 13x13 display of perspective and prisma colors. I was creative with this art peace by creating my own sheet to draw on out of a cheeseburger wrapper. So not only did I incorporate McDonald with the McCoffee, but also made my paper a McDonald's cheeseburger wrappers. What I like about this is how the light really seems to stick out which makes the perspective of the art work more believable. On the other hand, what I did not like was how the cheeseburger wrapper was very oily so the prisma colors did not work as well as I would have liked them to work.

Vote for him

This is a 9x12 creation inspired by not only image transfer, but also by Peter Max. I basically took some paper, acrylic paint, and my transfer image and had fun with it. First I created a back ground using red, blue, white, and black. Then I incorporated my image transfer to it and added even more color and pattern on top of that to create a finish art work. The art was created fast, but with passionate strokes which is what Peter Max is all about. What I didn't like was that my image transfer did get a but destroyed in the process of making it, but that was probably my inexperience with the media. Other wise I really enjoyed everything else about it.

Freedom

This is a collage inspired by Derek Gores, i titled it "freedom" and its 11x18. I am now developing the theme in my art of American symbols, so the bald eagle is the main subject of this piece. What I enjoyed the most about this work was combining the different magazines pages and putting it all together into what is now "Freedom". I feel like the text freedom is a really good additional to the work because it combines the background with the the main subject, the eagle. The process to make my art was simple cutting out magazines and laying it down on my sheet of paper using watered down glue. I also went in with acrylic paint to add some shade and definition to the eyes.

The Stage

This painting is a 12x 18, done in art nouveau style using acrylic paint and gold leaf. I started out by taking sketches of different people and feeling them up with pattern. Then I picked which colors I was going to use, and also where to place my gold leaf. My painting over all came out very good, the only thing is that the gold leaf did not work as well as I would have liked it to look. Another very small thing is I wished I would have outlined the stool with black so that it would pop out with the people as well.

My precision

This is a 12 in by 9 in painting of a computer fan using a precisions style. I painted it all with acrylic paint only, and used tape to try to paint in straight lines and keep all objects as geometrically accurate as I could. I used analogous colors to make sure the over all the art had harmony. It was mostly just take a picture that I personally took with a camara and basically tryed to emulate it using percision. What I most disliked about this work or am the best at is painting things the exact way that they look. I used my time wisely but still I think that there is something missing from the peace to tie it all together. I believe that with more time I could have made it all flow better but because there was a dead line I did the best I could.

Sidewalk Art

Now i know that our teacher said sidewalk art is not really all that cool to post but i found a site with some amazing art. Most of the sidewalk art on there has depth and 3D elements to where it seems to be almost coming to life. I thought it was pretty cool so thats why I'm posting. So I hope others can enjoy it and hopefully draw some inspiration from it, or maybe even start some sidewalk art: http://www.impactlab.net/2006/03/09/amazing-3d-sidewalk-art-photos/

Need art inspiration?

I found a really cool site where you can see some amazing art for inspiration, or for simply enjoying art. All the art is recent so it will have modern art. Well without further ado his the site:
