The Stage

This painting is a 12x 18, done in art nouveau style using acrylic paint and gold leaf. I started out by taking sketches of different people and feeling them up with pattern. Then I picked which colors I was going to use, and also where to place my gold leaf. My painting over all came out very good, the only thing is that the gold leaf did not work as well as I would have liked it to look. Another very small thing is I wished I would have outlined the stool with black so that it would pop out with the people as well.

  1. This is one of my favorite of the art-nouveau pieces. I really like your use of warm colors and how the gold leaf ties in with it. I agree that this piece would be more complete with the stool outlined in black because it seems out of place and more in the background without it.

  2. I really like this piece. The colors flow well, especially with the gold leaf. I feel like silver leaf wouldn't have fit as well. The stool seems a bit out of place though. If I were you, I would have outlined the stool with black. My eyes are drawn strait to the pants (Jessica's, not mine). I think that there is too much white space on my jacket though. I like the design, but I feel like you could have done more with the red to make it loook a little less blank. Well done.

  3. I completely agree with jessica! I think the best part is that all the patters vary yet are still tied together with your color scheme.

  4. Tres bien Santiago! There is good color harmony in this painting. The background and clothing all go together well with the gold leaf. Its interesting how you filled the faces with gold leaf which makes it more abstract and I like that. The only thing I would change is how Larissa (the girl on the right) is connected to Cannon (in the center)by adding an outline. I would do so because its hard for me to tell where Cannon starts and Larissa ends.

  5. This is really cool. It reminds me of the artist Romare Bearden without the Magazine clippings. It looks colorful but jaz. The bright light in the guitar stands out the most. Awesome!

  6. I like this peice alot, it was one of my favorites fromt his lesson. The colors really work together, and the forms of the poeple really do create one shape with their bodies (Just like in Brandt's examples). The Gold leaf also really does visually enhance your peice kudos (:

  7. I'm going to be like everyone else Santiago, and say that I really like this piece. Period. Although, I will be honest and say that I thought that it was going to be too busy with all of the patterns, they are very eye-catching, and as much gold leaf that you used as the frame, but overall it turned out excellent. My favourite part would have to be the warm colours you used and the gold leaf border, it was probably daring to use that much gold leaf in it, but it worked.

  8. everything i was thinking has been already commented on. i love the warm colors with the gold (already said). I also agree with the stool being outlined because right now it looks like a pattern on the floor. when i first looked at this i didnt look at the title and it took me a sefod till i noticed it was people then i looked at the titlr and was like oh it makes sense nowand i totally see it. i love the patternes in the shirt and pants of the person standing up
